#LaiBhaari (Marathi)
Rating: * * #RiteishDeshmukh’s attempt
at making a back door entry into
Bollywood action hero stereotype, is not a pretty sight at all.
Especially because he lacks the musculature and moves to convince. Even
#NishikanthKamath faulters in the helming here!

Action without conviction
Film: Lai Bhaari
Cast: Riteish Deshmukh, Sharad Kelkar, Radhika Apte and Aditi Pohankar
Director: Nishikanth Kamath
Rating: * *
Riteish Deshmukh’s attempt to gain a backdoor entry into the haloed action hero firmament comes-a-cropper mainly because the film is a clichéd re-run of bollywood action movie tropes. There’s nothing new on offer here other than Reteish in role that makes him go pow, wow!
The royal family of Nimbalkars has been without an heir for long and it’s only when they put their faith in Lord Vithal and after the Pandharpur Yatra, that Sumitra Devi(Tabvi Azmi) gives birth to a son. Prince(Riteish Deshmukh) is just about to take on the mantle of heir after his foreign sojourn when he realizes he has a competitor in his scheming cousin Sangram(Sharad Kelkar).
The story credited to Sajid Nadiadwala, with script by Ritesh
Shah and dialogues by Sanjay Powar follows the usual Bollywood pattern of good versus evil dramatics and
fisticuffs. The action is indistinctive and the narrative lacks bite. Riteish
Deshmukh lacks stature, musculature and agility and so the fights don’t really
come off with any conviction. His comic timing is good and the sequence with
Salman Khan is entertaining. Also the Pandharpur yatra related sequences
provide some strong gravitas. In terms of performance, Riteish comes across as
a poor cousin to Bollywood action heroes like Ajay Devgan, Akshay kumar and
Sunny Deol. Sharad Kelkar engages with striking antagonism though Tanvi
Azmi adds grace and quiet distinctive intensity while Genelia teases with a
walk-on cameo.
Nishikanth Kamath, the director that helmed comparative gems like ‘Dombivili Fast’, ‘Mumbai Meri Jaan’ and ‘Force’ seems a tad shaky and unsure what with the flaky dramatic content and ritualistic stereotyped masalafied action. This film is reported to be a costly affair for marathi cinema and it's a glossy no doubt..but without the strong content!
