Hindi Film Review

An un-relieving Pain!
Film: DEE Saturday Night
Cast: Prashant Narayan, Arif Zakaria, Aman Verma
Director: Jay Prakash
Rating: * ½
A wannabe ‘Page 3,’ this small-minded film is a
little too conservative and restricting in the ideology it propounds , to be so
sleazy in it’s visual composition.
If you are wondering
what DEE of the title stands for, don’t. According to one of the characters it
represents Dirty English Entertainment. Imagine a film aiming in that
direction. And you won’t be winning any prizes for guessing that our very own
infamous Inspector Dhoble(Arif Zakaria) is one of the chief spoilers here.
Yeah, he goes all around the place, with his posse and strikes terror in the
minds and hearts of party-hoppers and hawkers. In raid after raid, where he is
shown barging right through open doors, he keeps intercepting the same bunch of
sleaze artists. And it takes all kinds. Dumped, duped, raped, molested and ill-treated
women form the core of this film and Dhoble appears to be the biggest
perpetrator as he goes around slapping and insulting them with all-encompassing
impunity.
It’s a tasteless spiral of crime and criminality
showcased in a manner that is distinctly unpalatable and provocative.
Obviously, not much thought has gone into this enterprise.
