#KhotaSikka:JaatKeThaat(Hindi) Rating: * ½ Old tale, new bottle. ‘MunnaMangeMemsaab’ in a romantically fulfilling vein, as far as the story goes. Nothing much in it for the viewer though, other than major disenchantment!#ManojBharadwaj #Himanshu #DwaparPR #BharatiyamEntertainment

 Confounding Romcom

Film: Khota Sikka: Jaat Ke Thaat
Cast:Aatri Kumar, Nilufer Salehi,Rakesh Bedi, Susmita Mukherjee, Hemant Pandey, Vijay Kashyap
Director:Ram Pratap Singh

Rating: * ½

One of those films that crop up out of the woodwork and vanish just as quickly.=, ‘Khota Sikka’ appears to have been fashioned on benevolence towards it’s lead actor, Aatri Kumar, who happens to have some personal connection with the producer. So don’t expect much from this undeserving produce. The storyline and treatment is very much in keeping with Omkardas Manekpuri’s last disaster ‘Munna Mange Memsaab.’

In this film, the spaced out layabout, Veeru(Aatri Kumar) with a tonal quality that is flat and uninteresting in essay, bumps into a London returned girl, Kiran(Nilufer Salehi). Their first meeting was a mishap, the second was vengeance for the first and the third ends-up as a sight-seeing tour of Udaipur. Thereafter they fast-track onto love. Kiran confides in her father, who sees nothing wrong in marrying her off to the short, jobless, layabout. But the boy’s father has other plans for him. Some knee-jerk activities later, the two lovers spring a surprise on their respective families with Rehmat Chacha’s assistance. Needless to say at the end is a wedding and the accompanied bollywoodian frills.

Not a promising story or treatment thereof. Aarti Kumar basically reeks of a wannabe Rajpal Yadav hangover but minus the talent or the timing. Nilufer tries hard to overlook her co-star’s ‘short’ comings but fails to impress. The supporting cast is also fitfully competent to say the least. The London returned fail to be consistent in their accents while the rest of the characters also look a fair bit off their stride.  So all you get is terrible tedium. Uninteresting, ugly and painful to sit through. Better left alone!

#Creature3D(Hindi) Rating: * * This horror film from VikramBhatt’s stable has strong production values. It’s a brave first time effort with a quasi-mythological creature laying siege on the guests at a boutique hotel. 3D has depth but the story telling is weak , the apportioned scares even flimsier. An unnecessarily protracted and clumsy climax spells death..for the viewer! #BipashaBasu #VikramBhatt #ParulGossain #ImranAbbas #BhushanKumar #TSeries

Long-route to Despair

Film: Creature 3D
Cast: Bipasha Basu, Imran Abbas
Director: Vikram Bhatt

Rating: *  *

Vikram Bhatt’s attempt to give Bipashu Basu’s career a much needed fill-up with this horror factory product is yet another nail-in-the-coffin for genuine horror aficionados. The plot is lame, the build-up lacking in tension and bite and the tempo is just a little too flat to make any dent on your psyche. Even, the digital ‘Creature’ fashioned on mumbo-jumbo looks a little too rubbery to strike fear in the hearts of it’s viewers.

The narrative is so intent on making the lead actress look good that not a hair on her head strays out of place despite the heavy-weather activity she engages in to save her resort from horrific attacks by the creature.

The film begins with Ahana(Bipasha) showing-off her new toy, a boutique hotel, Glendale resorts, in the heart of the Himachal Hills, to her dear father. Minutes later we realise that her father died several months ago and it’s just Ahana alone, setting herself free from the stranglehold of a coveted ownership of prime property in Mumbai, which she sold to  fashion this so-called dream. Guests start streaming in and Ahana, the efficient hostess, sets the ball rolling with a music program as a welcome gift. But the band has not arrived and Ahana mistakes a loner for the musician and sets him singing on the guests. A song later she realises that she’s mistaken, apologises and they both are well set, enroute to falling in love. But the Creature has it’s own plans, keeps eating away at her guests and her confidence, causing a rupture in the romance. Forest officers, a scientist and employees all fall prey to the creature before Ahana and her love manage to quell the devil from within and without!
Bipasha looks good and performs to rote but it’s not an involving one. She is meticulously made-up , but doesn’t convey more than a superficial involvement in the proceedings.  Pakistani actor Imran Abbas has the look of  sensitive poet but not much screen presence to go with it. Mukul Dev manages to look solid even though his role was a very wishy-washy one. The songs are an attraction no doubt but it’s not enough to get you into the theatres.
The Storyline is standard issue bollywood- so not much purchase there. The treatment is a little too hands-off to stir the audience. We never get involved in the character’s plight nor are we empathetic towards her dilemma. There’s no tension to be had either. The thrills are minimal even though the 3D depth is solid and effects are pretty crusty. This is a film that promised much but delivered very little.
